Recipe: 5 Star English Tea Pastries

Bake a sweet snack for a cup of tea or coffee

That the bitter taste of black tea or coffee needs to be supplemented with something soft and sweet, as everyone knows. Even the English like to enjoy, for example, a Victoria Sponge cake with their tea at five o'clock, but even more so sweet tea pastries.

Prepare this sweet dessert and turn your ordinary afternoon tea or coffee into a luxurious meeting place.

You need:

For the dough:

  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • content of 1 vanilla pod (or vanilla sugar)
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 3 cups plain flour

For the frosting:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3-4 tablespoons of milk
  • 1 vanilla pod (or vanilla sugar)

How to do it:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Line a tray with baking paper and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, use a hand mixer to mix the butter and sugar. Beat for about 1 minute until the ingredients are well mixed.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla and mix again.
  4. Add baking powder and salt to the flour. Using a whisk, then mix the flour into the prepared mixture. Beat thoroughly until the dough comes together.
  5. Shape the dough into balls with a diameter of about 5 cm and flatten them on a baking sheet.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
  7. After baking, transfer the cookies to a wire rack and let cool.
  8. For the frosting, mix all the ingredients in a bowl and whisk carefully. Then pour directly onto the cooled cookies. Let the frosting set before serving.
