The instant kettle with adjustable water temperature and various other functions is an achievement of modern times. At first glance, it seems that better times are ahead for lovers of green tea and other beverages that drink water below the boiling point. After all, who would want to monitor the temperature of the water in the kettle using, for example, oven thermometers... But are these new types of kettles really so perfect and wonderful? We shined a light on them.
How does a kettle work?
Although we use the kettle regularly and even several times a day, it is not out of the question to imagine its mechanism. It usually has two parts. Own kettle body and stand with power cord. During the heating of the water, it is necessary that the body is on the base and that it is electrically connected in a safe way. As a result, trouble-free handling of the body of the kettle is possible.
The kettle is equipped with a bimetal switch, which disconnects the power supply when the boiling point is reached. This switch also serves as a safety fuse and protection against possible fire. It also prevents the kettle from being run without water filling. Now there are also kettles with adjustable temperature that can limit the heating of water to a temperature lower than the boiling point.

At cerny and herbal teas, it is no problem - they are usually poured with water at a temperature of 100°C. But what if you want to prepare green tea, which should be poured with 70°C – 80°C water? And likewise, filtered coffee and the so-called "turk" should also be poured with not quite boiling water (approximately 93 °C - 95 °C is recommended).
Our tips and recommendations for such a situation:
- Let the water boil. Then open the lid of the kettle and let the water stand. About 1.5 minutes for green tea, less than a minute is enough for coffee.
Another tip that is easy to use:
- Prepare a mug in which you want to make tea. Allow the water to boil, then pour from a greater height and only after about 20 seconds insert a tea bag or loose tea. Thanks to the slow pouring and the cold walls of the mug, the water cools down quickly and reaches the required 70 °C - 80 °C.

A good helper with improved kettles is certainly the function "keep warm" or the function that keeps you at the correct temperature for a certain period of time water for pouring tea or coffee. This function will prove to be great, for example, at the home office, when you suddenly have an important call or you are currently in a work flow, and you completely forget about water.
Dobrým pomocníkem u vylepšených varných konvicí, je ovšem určitě funkce “keep warm” nebo-li funkce, která vám po určitou dobu udržuje tu správnou teplotu vody pro zalití čaje či kávy. Skvěle se tato funkce osvědčí například při home office, kdy máte znenadání důležitý hovor či jste zrovna v pracovní flow, a na vodu úplně zapomenete.

So when you decide it's time to get a new kettle, you have two options to choose from. Are you thinking of buying a more expensive variant of the kettle with an adjustable temperature? Then be sure to keep in mind that in order to brew good tea without losing quality, you will need to have baby or distilled water on hand. If you don't want to carry baby water from the store, make sure that the water always passes the boiling point. This will remove bacteria and other substances from the water that reduce the quality of your favorite cup of tea.
